Nasce a Voghera (Pavia) nel 1940. Si diploma all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, dove ha come maestro Luciano Minguzzi. I suoi lavori sono esposti in Italia e all’estero in numerose mostre e rassegne artistiche, come - ad esempio - alle collettive della XV
Triennale Internazionale di Milano, alla XII Quadriennale Nazionale di Torino, alla Rotonda della Besana di Milano, e alla mostra itinerante La scultura nella realtà urbana (1980).
Numerose anche le mostre personali, che l’artista presenta in diverse città. Nel 1994, a Voghera, è curatore delle Manifestazioni Marinettiane, nel cui ambito realizza il percorso-installazione Le Vestali del Futurismo. Esegue diverse opere pubbliche: due bassorilievi per la chiesa di S. Vittore a Voghera, il Monumento ai Caduti di Brallo di Pregola
(Pavia), tre medaglioni per il Sacrario ai Caduti di Voghera, il Monumento ai Caduti per Pinarolo Po (Pavia), le vetrate per la chiesa di S. Sebastiano a Voghera.
Lo scultore si occupa anche di litografia, e svolge attività di docenza al Liceo Artistico Statale I di Milano e all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera. Silverio Riva “crea opere che, come nella tradizione plastica più antica, sono preferibilmente pensate per spazi aperti,
che però non sono quelli della città ma piuttosto quelli dell’ambiente naturale: viene così a comporsi un singolare e suggestivo paesaggio storico, proposto come paradigma e metafora dell’uomo e del cosmo, rappresentati nel loro indissolubile rapporto, materiale
e ideale, di costante e reciproca trasformazione”.
L’artista è scomparso nel 1998.

Silverio Riva was born at Voghera in the province of Pavia in 1940. He studied for his diploma at the Accademia di Belle Arti at Brera where one of his teachers was Luciano Minguzzi. He took part in the 15th Milan Triennale, the 12th Turin Quadriennale, and the travelling exhibition, La scultura nella realtà urbana (1980) amongst many other shows in Italy and abroad. He also presented one-man shows in various cities and in 1994 was curator of Manifestazioni Marinettiane for which he made the installation Le Vestali del Futurismo.
Two of his bas-reliefs are in the church of S. Vittore at Voghera. He realised the war memorials at Brallo di Pregola and Pinarolo Po, three medallions for the memorial to the dead at Voghera, and the stained glass windows for the church of S. Sebastiano at Voghera. He taught at the Milan Liceo Artistico Statale and at the Brera Accademia, and also produced lithographs.
Critics have commented that his works, in the most ancient tradition of the plastic arts, are ideally conceived for open spaces. Those spaces are
not however urban but rather in natural surroundings where the works contribute to a singular and suggestive historic landscape, as paradigm and
metaphor for man and the cosmos, represented in their indissoluble material and ideal relationship of constant and reciprocal transformation.
Silverio Riva died in 1988.
