Vito Mele nasce a Presicce (LE) il 29Marzo 1942, figlio di Salvatore, anche lui nato a Presicce e di Maria Recchia, nata a Monopoli (BA).
Si trasferisce all’età di 16 anni a Milano. Attualmente risiede a Garbagnate Milanese.
Alla fine degli anni sessanta frequenta la scuola di incisione e disegno presso “L’Umanitaria” di Milano, diretta dal prof. Franco Fossa e negli anni settanta la “Scuola Superiore del Castello Sforzesco” di Milano.
Durante la sua lunga carriera ha ricoperto incarichi di grande responsabilità presso le più importanti aziende per la lavorazione artistica dei metalli.
In questi ambienti ha incontrato artisti nazionali e internazionali, che hanno sperimentato varie tecniche artistiche
tra cui la realizzazione di medaglie, trofei e bronzi.
La sua avventura artistica inizia con mostre di pittura sia in Italia che all’estero. Il pubblico risponde in modo soddisfacente e anche la critica gli è favorevole.
Negli ultimi anni, dopo alcune pause creative, comincia ad allargare le sue competenze dedicandosi anche alla scultura, come collezionista prima e poi come scultore.
Nel dicembre 2003 inaugura, nel paese natale, la prima mostra di sculture che ha per tema i Ricordi del Salento: ulivi, mandorli in fiore, viti, il mondo animale e l’iconografia sacra.
Il “Museum Vito Mele” rappresenta per lui una tappa esistenziale fondamentale.

.Vito Mele was born in Presicce in the province of Lecce in March 1942. At the age of 16 he moved to Milan where he now lives in Garbagnate.
At the end of the ‘60s he went to the school of engraving and design directed by Franco Fossa at L’Humanitaria in Milan and in the ‘70s he went to
the Scuola Superiore del Castello Sforzesco. During his long career, he has held posts of considerable responsibility with some of the most important companies in the field of artistic metal working. He met artists of national and international reknown experienced in different techniques, including medal-making, trophies and bronzes.
His own artistic adventure began with painting exhibitions in Italy and abroad. The public and critics responded favourably. In the last few years,
after a pause in creativity, he began to widen his scope, devoting himself to sculpture at first as collector and then as artist. In December 2003 he
held his first sculpture exhibition with the theme Ricordi del Salento in the town of his birth. The subjects included olive trees, almond trees in
blossom, vines, the animal kingdom and religious iconography.
The Vito Mele Museum is for him a fundamental step in his life.
